This article in Britain’s Daily Mail quotes someone who is a Communities Secretary as signaling the end of multiculturalism in Britain and the return to learning English and having respect for mainstream values.
I have to wonder if this announcement will actually work since nothing was said about how to deal with people who wanted shari’a to be the law of the land. Moreover, I was disturbed by quotes from people in several groups who were critical of this new direction.
The National Secular Society is a British organization that, based on what I read in their Wikipedia entry, seems to spend most of its energy fighting the Church of England. However, they do support the Council of Ex-Muslims, so I guess they have some sense.
The British Humanist Society: Its Wikipedia entry doesn’t mention Muslims at all.
The Runnymede Trust is a strong promoter of multiculturalism. Its Wikipedia entry mentions that it is concerned about Islamophobia, though it is also concerned about anti-Semitism.
All of these organizations were founded long before the rise of Muslim immigration, and they don’t seem to perceive any real threat from people who want to ram shari’a down everyone’s throats. In other words, they are just attacking what they see as a reactionary move by the government without offering any solutions to what many of us see as a stealth attack on the West, including its secular societies.
