When I was in Egypt four years ago, I observed that about 95% of the women wore headscarves. When I got back and mentioned this to people who had been to Egypt two or three decades ago, they had a hard time believing me. Since then, I’ve learned that wearing headscarves is recent and that a few decades ago, hardly any women did it. But as Western liberals and leftists decided that lecturing other cultures on how to act was wrong, things slowly changed until most Egyptian women find that they have to wear them.
Here is a little bit of proof that there was a change. The filming of a tv show at a university in Cairo set in the 1970s had to be halted because there were people on campus objecting to the clothing worn by the actresses, which was different back then.
By the way, the name of the company, Misr International Films, uses the Arabic name for Egypt: Misr.
