According to this article, the singer Ray Charles gave three million dollars to Albany State University to be used for building a performing arts center. This center hasn’t been built yet, so the Ray Charles Foundation is demanding the money back. The university says the money was given without restrictions, while the foundation says the money was given for one reason only, namely to build that performing arts center.
Whom do you believe? I’m going with the foundation, because even though people often give money with restrictions, universities are always saying that gifts to them are given without restrictions, and even when they do acknowledge the restrictions, they often use the money in other ways.
