This article on the arrest of a Malaysian, who is ethnically Chinese, for insulting Islam is notable for two sentences:
Malaysia generally practises a moderate brand of Islam among its majority Malay community, but conservative views have gained increasing traction in recent years.
But Amnesty International condemned the arrest as “another sign of the increasing repression by the Malaysian authorities against government critics, including artists.”
Well, good for Amnesty International. I gave up on them years ago, but maybe they are still worthwhile. As for the first sentence, it confirms my view that the entire Muslim world is being pushed in a conservative direction. One would think that leftists would be bothered by this, but they generally aren’t.
