Here is an article on chronic fatigue syndrome, which I wouldn’t have read except that my brother-in-law may suffer from it, so I’ve been curious about it. The article is quite shocking since it reports on a study done that indicated that people with chronic fatigue syndrome would benefit from psychotherapy and exercise, but the author of this article, who is both a science writer and someone who suffers from this disease, was extremely skeptical. Many others were skeptical as well, but their protests went nowhere, until a lecturer at Berkeley wrote a scathing review of the study. Up until then, there was the usual stonewalling by those associated with the study, such as refusing to release data and refusing to take criticisms seriously, that we have seen in connection with the claims about global warming.
The science fell in this case, and it will probably fall for global warming, too.
