No, we shouldn’t be accepting so many immigrants when so many are unemployed or underemployed, and the people who say we should are obviously enjoying very secure employment and have no empathy for those who are unemployed. It’s hard to believe these are liberals and leftists. And let me add that if you are unemployed and your own fellow citizens aren’t sympathetic to your plight, who else will be? No one. Will the Brits or the French or the Germans worry about American citizens who are unemployed? Of course not. Will Mexicans? Of course not. No one will. So, if you are an unemployed American citizen these days, you find yourself abandoned by our dominant, left-leaning culture, even though back in the 1930s, you were at the heart of the left’s focus. This does a lot to explain the election of Donald Trump.
