Continuing with the theme of my last post – namely, job creation – let me recommend this link which contains a radio interview with Peter Cove, who promotes job creation as the way to help the poor. (Hat tip: reader Charles N. Steele) His background is that of a liberal who spent years working in anti-poverty programs before acknowledging that they weren’t working. He now advocates job creation. When asked about a negative income tax, he said that all that money going to the poor (and everyone else) would be better spent on job creation. He also has a book out called Poor No More: Rethinking Dependency and The War on Poverty. I haven’t read it yet, so I can’t comment on the book, but the radio interview suggests to me that the book will be worth reading.
