Day 5: Medical Experiments on Live Prisoners
These were done by the Japanese in order to research biological and chemical warfare. According to this source, they were mostly done by something called Unit 731 which was located in Harbin in China (then under Japanese occupation). About 10,000 people were used in these experiments, and this source asserts that there were 3,000 deaths. (The first source says they were mostly Chinese and Koreans.) Subsequently, there were many more deaths of Chinese from germ warfare, though the numbers here are somewhat confused (which is why I’ve needed to rely on two sources).
In any case, those who were experimented on suffered from vivisection without the use of anaesthetics, the amputation of limbs, and various other horrible torments. For example:
To determine the treatment of frostbite, prisoners were taken outside in freezing weather and left with exposed arms, periodically drenched with water until frozen solid. The arm was later amputated; the doctor would repeat the process on the victim's upper arm to the shoulder. After both arms were gone, the doctors moved on to the legs until only a head and torso remained. The victim was then used for plague and pathogens experiments.
When the Russians began invading that part of China, Unit 731 was forced to disband and its head swore all participants to secrecy. Ultimately, many of them were not prosecuted in a deal with U.S. forces, which were willing to give them immunity in exchange for their research, which they wanted to keep from the Russians.

There. Anyone who was read all that I’ve written over the past five days, as well as the links I’ve provided, should be inoculated against leftist propaganda about our dropping atom bombs on Japan.
