I talked the other day (here) about my hope that FATCA would get overturned. This post contains a letter from a woman in Canada who was formerly an American citizen and who has gotten caught in the snares of FATCA, even though she quit being an American citizen way back in 1973. It is clear that she is left-of-center, and possibly she went to Canada in anger at the Vietnam War. She hopes that Trump will repeal FATCA.
FATCA was designed to find the money that fat cats had stashed in overseas bank accounts, but it also makes life miserable for ordinary Americans (and former Americans) who want to live in a foreign country. They find that foreign banks may want nothing to do with them because it is too much bother to adhere to all the rules that this law demands of them.
If there was ever a cause that both Americans on the right and Americans on the left could agree on, this should be it. But leftists can be perverse, and no doubt they will feel loyalty to Obama and decide it should be kept, even if they themselves (or their relatives or friends) will suffer for it.
