The other day I saw a book at Barnes & Noble about rejection, and I bought it. I’m not very far into it, but from what I can tell, the author has not experienced much rejection in her life. In fact, if I had looked at the list of books she has already written, I would have seen that she has had quite a bit of acceptance in her life. There are lots of people who have experienced much more rejection than she has. But this led me to realize that there is a publishing paradox about rejection: anyone who has experienced a lot of rejection in life would also have their book on rejection rejected by all publishers. That’s the way lives of rejection tend to go. The author could, of course, publish it through one of the many print-on-demand publishers that publish everything sent their way, and such a book might become a best-seller. But the author shouldn’t count on it.
