In his latest book Skin in the Game, Nassim Nicholas Taleb observes that journalists write more for other journalists than for the reader, unlike restaurant owners, who worry more about the opinion of their customers than of other restaurant owners (pp. 180-1). This gave me the idea that we the readers ought to set up our own prizes for the best articles in the media instead of relying on those elites who get to choose the winners of the Pulitzer Prizes. A lot of us today are disgusted with the media and its obvious bias, its refusal to tell the truth about certain topics, and its refusal to even cover some stories. So, we ought to have our own prizes. Actually, I wouldn’t be surprised if someone is already doing this, but they need more publicity. Naturally, the media itself won’t publicize it, so we will have to do it ourselves.
