It's religion. It is beliefs that are held independently of evidence or logic. There's no evidence at all that Trump colluded with Russia, and lots of evidence that he has opposed the Russian government and been far more hostile to them than Obama was.

In the same way, there's lots of evidence that Earth is very old, yet some people insist that it was created 6,000 years ago. You can explain fossil evidence, genetics, geology, astrophysics, paleontology, etc. to them but it's irrelevant. Similarly, the complete failure of Mueller's witch hunt doesn't matter. If anything, they'll argue it's a sign of how deep the conspiracy goes... "even Mueller is compromised!"

There are also elements of mental illness to this, because for many it goes beyond simply holding beliefs despite evidence and verges into monomania that upsets their lives. Trump Derangement Syndrome is a real thing.
