I haven’t said anything about impeachment, but I think – and I assume other Trump supporters think the same way – that (1) Trump didn’t do anything wrong, and (2) even if he did, they were things similar to what our last president did, which didn’t bother Democrats in the slightest. And (3) even if he did do something wrong and Obama didn’t do something similar, whatever it was Trump did does not count as being bad enough to warrant impeachment. He used a quid pro quo with some foreigner? So what? He’s subverting America’s foreign policy? So what? He’s president and is allowed to do that. And then (4) the evidence for what he did is soft. And finally (5) his opponents seem to be making up new rules and charges as they go along. Oh, so it wasn’t a quid pro quo, but bribery?
In fact, all one has to do to see what a farce these proceedings are is to imagine if any of this had been directed against Obama by the Republicans: would the Democrats have accepted it calmly or would they have screamed about the destruction of America? And of course the answer is, the latter. That is what they would have done, calling it the gravest crisis in American history. But because they mostly control the megaphone, they aren’t saying anything like this when it happens to a Republican president.
If the Republicans were savvy about public relations, they would have a contest concerning which statement or aspect of the impeachment circus so far is the most outrageous. My vote would be for that statement about the subversion of America’s foreign policy by the president. Sheesh.
Democrats take things *they* have done and accuse Trump of doing them. Obama appeased Putin. Hilliary compromised American classified material AND sold decisions to Putin. Biden threatened Ukraine with loss of a promised billion dollar loan unless they fired a prosecutor investigating his son’s company. The Obama DOJ (e.g. Bruce Ohr) conspired with a private firm working for Hilliary (Nellie Ohr, Fusion GPS) and a British agent (Christopher Steele) to promote a fake report given to Steele by the Russian government in order to frame Trump. The should all be in prison.
“If the Republicans were savvy about public relations...”. Yup. And if Democrats has morals they’d arrest themselves.
