I stipulate that the left is run by elites who get people at the bottom to accept their ridiculous ideas about redistributing wealth, but the result is always the same: the elites somehow manage to keep their wealth while those at the bottom never get much of anything. Here is a post from Legal Insurrection about how some grad students at the University of North Carolina want administrative salaries to be redistributed so that they can get some of that money.
“We are tired of seeing the people at the top get more and more, while we are forced to make do on what effectively becomes less and less as cost of living increases,” the group said.
As Glenn Reynolds would say, Heh. And as I’ve said before, there is plenty of money sloshing around in academia. The problem for those academics getting little money – grad students and adjuncts – isn’t that there isn’t enough money and that therefore taxes on ordinary people need to be raised or the military needs to be defunded or anything else of that sort. No, it’s that money within academia is maldistributed and so needs to be redistributed.
Will the fact that some at the bottom now get it change anything? Of course not. I’ve seen this sort of thing too often to believe that. It’s just a flash in the pan.
