Adjuncts. (Here, by the way, is the professor’s tweet.) The plight of adjuncts, which I have talked about on numerous occasions, destroys the left’s entire economic program. First, because they are exploited, and because they are exploited in a sector of society that tries to be separate from capitalism, that means that exploitation has nothing to do with capitalism.
Second, it is a sector of society that is almost wholly controlled by the left. So, exploitation can happen when leftists are in control.
Third, professors are almost unanimous in wanting redistributions of wealth, yet despite this, no redistribution has happened. Why not? Are they waiting for the government to step in? It’s been about thirty years since the adjunct problem really got out of control, and we can say by now that the government is not going to step in. That means that tenured professors need to do it themselves. They need to agree to donate a portion of their salaries so that the money collected can be redistributed to adjuncts who need it. It is no good insisting that they are not rich, because the point is that they are richer than the adjuncts, and that is all that is needed for a redistribution to be necessary (according to principles established by about a zillion egalitarians). It would be nice if those well-paid diversity administrators kicked in some money, too. But the point is that a redistribution scheme should have been set up, and it hasn’t been.
Finally, if you can’t get a redistribution going voluntarily among people who believe in them, why would you believe that you can get one going among people who do not believe in them? You will have resistance the entire way.
