Why English? It looked like Chinglish to me. In China, putting English on things for non-English speakers is a way of making them seem cool, hip, cosmopolitan. You can see something similar here, with people getting Chinese or Japanese characters on things because they look cool, but no one knows what they say, if indeed they say anything. (Even crazier is when someone gets a tattoo like this.)

I would not put much credence in the argument in the video.
