A new fad in China involves people who are dropping out of China’s rat race to take a calmer approach to life. See here. The article at the link says this:
“Lying flat” is a “resistance movement” to a “cycle of horror” from high-pressure Chinese schools to jobs with seemingly endless work hours, novelist Liao Zenghu wrote in Caixin, the country’s most prominent business magazine.
In today’s society, our every move is monitored and every action criticized,” Liao wrote. “Is there any more rebellious act than to simply ‘lie flat?’”
The commies don’t like this trend because they require people to work hard to support the many elderly who can’t work anymore. Yet, some Chinese have come to feel that working hard is futile since the money China is generating mostly goes to the very wealthy, plus job prospects are bleak, and work hours have increased. It seems to be much easier to move to the provinces and have an easy “low-desire life.”
What will the commies do in response? These people aren’t being disruptive, but are simply choosing to make less money away from the big cities. No doubt any totalitarian society can force people to do something they don’t want to do, but more important is that the unequal distribution of wealth is of course counter to the very idea of communism. Heh. It should be interesting seeing how this is dealt with.
