Here. The contention of the author (Daniel Pipes) is that people in the Muslim world are getting sick of the extremists and are moving away from extreme Islam. In Saudi Arabia there are as many atheists as in America. In Iran, many are secretly converting to Christianity. In Turkey, they prefer deism (!). And in Egypt, they prefer moderate Islam, with women taking off the hijab. It’s been over a decade since I was in Egypt, so I can’t comment on this. At the time, it seemed that every woman was wearing one, except maybe in Coptic neighborhoods, so it would be quite a change if women were to stop wearing them. As for Turkey, in spite of the pressure to Islamify, I’ve noticed that the newspapers have never stopped showing uncovered women on their front pages (which can be seen here). I can’t say anything about developments in Saudi Arabia or Iran.
Pipes warns that this development does not include Muslims in the West, so we are still vulnerable.
But it would be very annoying if it did spread to the West, and if our elites were to say, “See! There was never any problem with Muslims.” That, of course, ignores all the upset they have caused, with murders and trafficking of women and so on. But our elites have always been clueless about anything that didn’t fit their narrative.
