I thought I would keep going with this series for a little longer (partly based on the comment by reader Charles N. Steele), and indeed I had several choices for today, till this item caught my eye.
The media has abused power by either getting the facts wrong in the Kyle Rittenhouse case or else by writing in such a way that people naturally drew incorrect conclusions. (I don’t have the time to investigate which one it was.) The result was that many people got the basic facts horribly wrong (because of what they read in the ruling-class media) and were apoplectic with anger because of what they thought was a terrible miscarriage of justice. Of course, some of these people have no particular sophistication, but people who are professors ought to know better. See here. This professor, who wrote a book claiming that Rittenhouse had shot two black men, at least had the merit to acknowledge that she made a mistake, but then lashed out against those who corrected her instead of those who deceived her. And there presumably were other people who reviewed this book before it went to press and who should have caught this error, but who didn’t.
The media always seems to make the same “mistakes” in which their narrative is confirmed, even when in fact it isn’t. The mistakes never seem to go the other way (and therein lies the abuse of power). That narrative suggests (among other things) that Trump supporters are racist scumbags, while those who oppose Trump and are in favor of critical race theory are wonderful people and heroes. But it simply isn’t true. The media has encouraged people to act as a mob, and they resemble the mob in the movie The Ox-Bow Incident, who based on incorrect information hang three men they think are cattle rustlers.
The people in that mob are not the good guys, to put it as mildly as possible.
This episode shows that today's left is basically a dark religious cult. Cooney is a tenured historian at a major research institution, but couldn't even get basic facts right even though they have been discussed at length in standard media. Instead she wrote one of the cult myths - white males randomly kill peaceful blacks - and when someone shows it is a myth, she attacks the infidels who have desecrated the faith. Just crazy.
